The head of Samsung’s mobile phone design unit has been replaced amid lukewarm reviews for the firm’s flagship new phone.

Chang Dong-Hoon reportedly offered his resignation last week, and will be succeeded by Lee Minhyouk.

Samsung has not given any details on why the move took place. The company’s latest flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S5, received mixed reviews.

Many tech experts criticised the plastic body, given its positioning as a premium smartphone.

Pocket Lint founder Stuart Miles, who reviewed the phone for Sky News, said it was “slow” at times.

He said that while the 5.1-inch display is “stunning”, the device “was not all perfect” due to its lag.

The design of the phone’s fingerprint sensor has also been criticised as too awkward to use.

The 16GB model costs £579 without a mobile phone contract.

Dong-Hoon will continue to oversee the company-wide design strategy.
