As the country marks the centenary anniversary of its amalgamation, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has called on governments at all levels to improve on the welfare of workers. The Chairman of NLC in Anambra, Mr Patrick Obianyo who made the call noted that there was a lot to celebrate in Nigeria’s nationhood in spite of the obvious challenges it faced.

He also stated that Nigeria remained a major symbol of the black race in the world and cautioned politicians not to do anything to destabilise the polity. “Nigeria is a gift to the world and so we must celebrate because a lot has been achieved in population, human and material resources, as well as in socio-economic and political spheres since its amalgamation in 1914.
We have our challenges but challenges make a nation and we must protect Nigeria. Our leaders and politicians should be sincere and not make their personal and selfish interest override national interest. The Nigerian workers have not had it so good. Governments at all level must continue to dialogue with the organized labour for improved welfare package and good working
conditions for a better society.”
