Kidnapped Kwara traditional ruler’s wife - Kidnappers reduce ransom

Terrorists, kidnap over 100, katsina, failing to pay n110m levyReports by Eagle Online indicate that terrorists, led by one of their kingpins, Damina, on Friday stormed four communities in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, kidnapping over 100 persons for failure to pay a N110 million levy imposed on them.

According to available information, aside from abducting over 100 persons, the terrorists also killed a local.

It was learnt that the bandits had imposed over N110 million levy on farmers in Mutunji, Unguwar Kawo, Kwantar Dutsi and Sabon Garin Mahuta.

A local source told BBC Hausa that the levy imposed was N110 million.

Channels Television is also reporting that N110 million was involved.

Channels Television said it gathered that N50 million levy was imposed on Mutunji, N30 million on Kwanar Dutsi, N20 million on Sabongari Mahuta and N10 million on Unguwar Kawo.

However, before the money could be put together, the terrorists stormed the villages.

This was because the two weeks ultimatum given the villagers to remit the money was not met.

A local source told BBC Hausa that Damina led his men on motorcycles and surrounded the community a few minutes after the dusk prayer at 8pm.

According to the source: “We were sitting in a place called Yar Kasuwa after the Isha’i prayers when the terrorists stormed the community.

“They surrounded the community while others drove into the community centre.

“We began running but it was already too late.

“They marched people into the forest.

“Men, women and children were abducted.”

Another source also said: “They attacked other communities, including Unguwar Kawo, Kwanar Dutsi and Sabon Garin Mahuta, and took away several people.

“We have at least 100 people taken.

“We’re still counting to ascertain the true number of those taken.”

The source equally told BBC Hausa that Damina attacked Mutunji because the village failed to give him the N50 million he asked them to pay as compensation for “informing soldiers” of the movements of terrorists.

He said: “We were trying to gather the money reaching out to people when he decided to strike.

“He had also imposed such levy on the other communities.

“Kwana residents were asked to pay N30 million, people of Sabon Garin Mahuta were asked to gather N20 million while residents of Unguwar Kawo were asked to pay N10 million.”
