A group of 47 companies including Apple, Google, Microsoft, and WhatsApp have strongly criticized a proposal by the UK intelligence agency GCHQ to eavesdrop on encrypted messages. In an open letter published on Lawfare, the companies say that the plans would undermine security, threaten trust in encrypted messaging services, and ultimately endanger citizens’ right to privacy and free expression.

Facebook-owned messaging giant WhatsApp has confirmed a vulnerability that allowed hackers to install spyware on smartphones.

Facebook on Tuesday urged users to upgrade to the latest version of its popular messaging app, WhatsApp, following a report that users could be vulnerable to having malicious spyware installed on phones without their knowledge.

WhatsApp is all set to bring a number of new features to its Android application, which has been previewed in just released 2.19.106 beta version.
