Obaseki vows to prosecute corrupt commissioners

 

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday, August 21 2019,  warned he would deal with anyone, not laving out members of his cabinet and civil servants caught in any act of corruption, saying they would be prosecuted.

Obaseki who expressed worry at the rate of antigraft reports reaching his table said he was setting up a team that would make sure that corruption cases in whatever form in Edo State were seriously death with.

The governor was speaking at the swearing in of a new commissioner recently cleared by the state House of Assembly, 35-year-old  Richard Uyi Edebiri from the Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the state.

“The reports of corruption reaching my office are becoming worrisome. I have instructed the Secretary to the State Government to set up an anti-corruption team within the next week and also open public complaint boxes and encourage members of the public to send information about any official with corrupt tendencies or involved in corrupt act to the government.

“This government is going to take the issue of corruption seriously and we are partnering with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC),” he said.
