Obafemi Martins hits brace for Sounders

Obafemi-martins-360x225Nigeria international Obafemi Martins scored twice in the first half as Seattle Sounders beat theEarthquakes 2-1 in the MLS teams’ preseason openers on Wednesday, MLS.com reported.

Former Sounders striker Mike Fucito scored in the 86th minute for the Quakes.

The match marked the San Jose debut of midfielder Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi. German trialist Andreas Gorlitz looked good at right back for the Quakes.

On the Quakes’ goal, Gorlitz found Atiba Harris open in the box. Harris traded passes with Fucito, who broke forward for a shot from 10 yards.

Pierazzi nearly scored in the 24th minute, but the Corsican’s header off a Sam Garza free kick was batted out by a leaping goalkeeper.

Sounders will start the season with the hosting of Sporting KC on March 8 in the Western Conference.

The Earthquakes complete their pre-season trip to Tucson against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday.
