Heirs Insurance Group, on Tuesday donated a 30KVA solar power station to the Ikoyi Passport Office of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS),  to facilitate 24-hour passport production.

Dr Awele Elumelu, Non-Executive Director of Heirs Holdings said this in a statement made available in Lagos.

Elumelu explained that the delay in passport issuance at the NIS in the past is mostly influenced by erratic power supply.

“Through this project, Heirs Insurance Group demonstrates its commitment to sustainability and community development with a focus on impacting the lives of Nigerians.

“The transformative CSR initiative intensifies the group’s focus on sustainability and community empowerment by addressing a crucial need to provide uninterrupted power to the passport office.

“This strategic move will empower the Lagos passport office to overcome power interruptions, significantly reducing the delay in passport production and easing the frustrations faced by many Nigerians in the process,” she said.

According to her, the positive impact of the project also draws attention to the deliberate use of solar power which aligns with the group’s commitment to clean energy solutions, a facet of its long-term sustainability goals.

Elumelu said that the group would continue to take pride in proactively creating value that impacts on its community positively, transform the country and by extension, the continent.

She commended the NIS for its collaborative approach to tackling the harrowing challenge of delays during passport production and issuance, faced by millions of Nigerians.

The group’s top official stated that the partnership aligns with Heirs Holdings philosophy of Africapitalism, which is a private-public handshake to accelerate economic development.

Commenting, Mrs Caroline Adepoju, Comptroller General, NIS appreciated the donation from the insurance group, adding that the project would significantly improve service delivery.
