There have been 3 huge bomb explosions detonated by suspected Boko Haram extremists in Maiduguri, Borno state at about 10 am on Friday.
Eyewitness say suspected insurgents dressed in Army camouflage uniforms have laid siege on the Army barracks command located at the GRA area of Borno State, in an attempt to bomb and take over the major military base known as “Giwa Barracks” in Maiduguri.
A caller to Channels television confirmed that gun fighting is intense as the insurgents battle to over-run the military Barracks. He said he had just dropped his daughter off in school and rushed back to pick her when he had the explosions and ensuing commotion. When he got back to his residence, every one in his house had fled
A Nigerian Airforce jet fighter arrived exactly an hour after the attack started to complement the effort of the Armed forces in repelling the attack Women, children, men, young and old around the Giwa barracks area were seen running in the ensuing confusion. Meanwhile, the fighting continues.
