The Director/Ambassador of the Africa Region Headquaters of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC), Dr Tivlumun Ahure, says the commission will support the African Businesses in Diaspora awards (ABID).
A statement from the commission made available in Abuja indicated that the awards will hold in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, on Nov. 11.
According to him, the event is organised by African Businesses in Diaspora Network in collaboration with Ikeja Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.
He said that the commission had also given notice to the structures of the African Union (AU) on the upcoming event.
Ahure commended the organisers of the award event and the IHRC Human Rights Radio for the roles they played to make the awards successful.
He explained that three committees had been inaugurated for the purpose of promoting the essence of the awards and other matters.
He said that the heads of the committees are Mr Ato Terngu, for the IHRC Working Group of Experts on Peoples of African Descent and Mr Isaac Baba for the IHRC Committee on Indigenous Populations while Dr Valentine Akpati would president over the Committee on African Indigenous Religions.
He emphasised that “the IHRC’s apex committees are to honour, celebrate and pay homage to black people building synergies to contribute in the emancipation of Africa.
“The mandates of the committee members will henceforth include the recognition of those of African origin, both within the continent and Diaspora, who have made a significant contribution to the development of African culture.
“The intention is to inspire our youth, and then to empower them to holistically reach their full potential”.

Ahure said that the committees would pursue total emancipation of Africa and discover those abroad who have earned a good image overseas for Africa through developments in diverse fields.
“The mandates of the committee members will henceforth include the recognition of those of African origin, both within the continent and Diaspora, who have made a significant contribution to the development of African culture in Africa and around the world.
“ABID awards 2023 allows brands the opportunity to be naturally associated with the highest levels of Africa and international success, thereby maximising their exposure in the market space.
“The IHRC Africa Region Headquarters is sending a delegation to the event to contribute in the deliberations that will aim to empower the African youths to become holistically developed.
“It is our conviction that they will become so by aspiring to something not only good, but bigger than themselves,” Ahure stated.
