Digital economy: imo govt. Targets 300,000 jobs for youthsThe Imo Government has said that the digital technology sector has the capacity to generate about 300,000 jobs for youths in the state.
The Chief Political Adviser and Head Political Bureau, Mr Enyinna Onuegbu, disclosed this on Thursday, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Owerri.
Onuegbu said that the digital technology initiative followed Gov. Hope Uzodimma’s approval of a memo, entitled “Imo Youth Digital Training and Empowerment Scheme”.
He said that the memo was submitted by the Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Prof. Kenneth Amaeshi.
“The objective is to have at least 300,000 Imo youths pass through a training that will make them digitally sound and guarantee their expertise in digital technology and other training possibilities.
“In addition, the training will increase their qualifications by guaranteeing their knowledge to become employable as well as employers of labour,” he said.

Onuegbu said that the State Government had constituted an inter-ministerial committee to drive the project.
“The project, when realized, will be very beneficial to the teeming youths of Imo, especially those who are likely to benefit from it not only as employees but employers of labour.
“The beneficiaries will contribute to the economy of the state since they will be working for international organisations, while living in the state and paying their taxes and bills,” Onuegbu said.
He said that well-established entrepreneurs and computer experts, including Zinox Computers and the Federal Minister of Communication and Digital Economy,  Dr. Isa Pantami, have keyed into in the training project.
