Okada restriction: policeman attacked by hoodlums dies in lagosThe Lagos State Police Command, on Friday, confirmed the death of an Inspector attached to the Iponri Division, from injuries sustained during  an attack by hoodlums suspected to be commercial motorcyclists.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident.

Hundeyin said that the Inspector, whose name was not mentioned, was one of the policemen attacked at Ijora Olopa by the assailants on Thursday.

He said that the officer died at an undisclosed hospital on Friday, where he was rushed to on Thursday after the attack.

The image maker said that the policemen went to the area to implement the Okada restriction law of the Lagos State government when they were attacked.

He said no arrest had been made yet as at press time on Friday evening.

BRANDPOWER reports that the incident happened around 10.00 am when the policemen came to the area to impound some okada riders who flouted the restriction order by the State government when they were attacked by the hoodlums.

The hoodlums were said to have been armed with dangerous weapons, such as cutlasses, clubs, and charms attacked the policemen and also tried to burn the operational vehicles of the policemen but they were prevented by the police response team of Rapid Response Squad and other policemen from the divisions deployed to the scene to prevent further breakdown of law and order at the area.

It was earlier reported that two Policemen were seriously injured in the clash, and some of the riders too were injured as some of their bikes were taken away by the Policemen who came to assist the Iponri Divisional Police Station men.

Hundeyin said that they were on the trail of those that carried out the attack.
