South african mission to host inaugural sa week celebrationsThe Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa in Lagos is set to host the first South Africa Week celebrations from April 22 to 29.

The consulate said in a statement, that the celebrations were to commemorate the 29th Anniversary of South Africa’s democracy and 29 years of formal diplomatic relations with Nigeria.

According to the consulate, some objectives of the celebrations include creating social cohesion through a tapestry of arts and culture and positioning their country as a preferred destination for tourism, education and business.

“In the line-up of events, the launch of South Africa week and a tourism activation will hold on the first day.

“The purpose of this is to promote our country as a tourist destination and also to engage and network with stakeholders in various sectors,” the consulate stated.

The consulate noted that a South Africa-Nigeria Trade and Investment Roundtable was also included in the programme.

This, the consulate said,  would promote and position South Africa as a preferred trade and investment country that remained open to business.

“The investment roundtable will provide a platform between the South African and Nigerian Business Community to exchange views, experiences and sharing of information on matters of common interest and mutual benefit between both countries.”

Other activities planned by the consulate included a movie and comedy night, freedom day celebration, and a golf tournament.
