There has been a rash of customer complaints in recent weeks as the various mobile ad electronic banking platforms became overwhelmed as more Nigerians were forced to do more online banking and payment transactions since the federal government introduced new 200, 500 and 1000 Naira bills while phasing out the old notes. This is in addition to strict cash withdrawal limits.

A report by the Financial Institutions Training Centre, FITC,disclosed that Bank customers in Nigeria lost over one billion naira to Banks’ branch and mobile channels fraud in the second quarter of 2022.

In the report on Fraud and Forgeries, FITC stated a total of 67,878 cases of fraud were recorded in the period under review.
