The Governing Board of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commended the Lagos State Government (LASG) for absorbing corps members posted to state for the one-year service programme.

Amb. Fatima Abubakar, Chairman of the Board, gave the commendation on Monday while addressing the 2022 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 members of the scheme at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Iyana-Ipaja.

Abubakar, who led a nine-member team, said that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu had assured the board that he would do everything necessary to make every youth corps member posted to Lagos State comfortable.

She said that the team paid a courtesy visit to the governor and appealed to him to remain committed in building the NYSC permanent orientation camp,

“We know that he has been doing a lot for NYSC in Lagos; from our going round and findings, Lagos State is the only state where corps members posted to government establishments are never rejected.

“And that is very good for us because the reverse is the case in other states. LASG is accommodating, in fact, they are even asking for more corps members to be posted here.

“This is because the state believes that it’s big enough to accommodate more corps members. On behalf of the NYSC scheme, we thank the LAGS and are happy with what we have seen on ground.

Meanwhile, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, NYSC Lagos Coordinator, said that the corps members who resumed at the orientation programme on Nov. 2 had shown immeasurable eagerness to learn.

Baderinwa said that the corps members, from different tribes, were one big family, and had imbibed the spirit of nationalism, dedication and absolute resolve to serve their fatherland.

She described their conduct as impressive, being well disciplined and resourceful.

 “Our target at the end of the orientation is to have well groomed corps members that will make us proud.

“All corps members, camp officials and collaborating agencies are doing exceptionally well in the discharge of their duties, so far we have had security, safety, drug prevention, traditions and integrity lectures.

“We have had motivational lectures, and most importantly, the corps members have been introduced to Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) as some have already started picking areas they want to major,” she said.
