Cristiano Ronaldo and partner Georgina Rodriguez have announced the death of their newborn son. Ronaldo, one of the world’s greatest footballers and presently Manchester United superstar released a statement on Instagram and Twitter announcing the sad news, and asking fans for “privacy at this very difficult time.”

Ronaldo and Rodriguez revealed in October 2021 that they were expecting twins.

Ronaldo said he and Rodriguez were “devastated by the loss,” in the statement. They added the birth of their newborn daughter “gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.”

“It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parent can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you.”
