Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), has assured students of the institution’s School of Preliminary Studies, Fufu, of admission into the university proper.
Abdulkareem gave the assurance on Thursday in Ilorin, while flagging off the 2021/2022 orientation programme.
He explained that as long as they are able to pass their remedial examinations and get the minimum score of 180 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), they are assured of admission, if they meet up with the major requirements.
The vice-chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic ), Prof. Sylvia Malomo, warned students to abstain from all forms of deviant and indecent behaviours for them to have successful academic careers in the institution.
“If your goal is just to socialise, make friends and show people you are handsome and beautiful, I wonder if you are meant to be here. Focus on why you are here, and that means you have to be diligent.
“Do not to be shameful to say ‘I do not know’ when actually they do not know. It is not a shameful act, but it is rather stupid to pretend to know something when actually you do not know,” he said.
He advised the average students to move closer to their brilliant colleagues.
Abdulkareem also warned the students against hard drugs, saying that the satisfaction derived from drugs is ephemeral but the consequences are very enduring.

On the dangers of manipulating personal data, he averred that lying about such personal details as age, state of origin and ‘O’ level grades, can deny the students of gaining admission into the university, even if such students meet up with the requirements.
He therefore cautioned them that the university would not clear any of them that is caught to have lied about his personal details.
Earlier in his address, the Director of the school, Prof. Muhammed Adeboye, urged the students to prepare well for their upcoming tests.
He affirmed that as long as they comport themselves well, make their five credits, pass UTME or score at least 180, they will be welcomed into 100 Level next session.
The director assured that measures were being taken to ensure that the students achieve excellence not only in their academics but also in their morals, include setting up marshals of security, provision of good water supply and equipping the library with books.
