13 Govornorship candidates in Kwara state step down for APC candidate

Thirteen (13) Political parties in Kwara state north central Nigeria on Monday resolved to support the gubernatorial candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and other APC candidates in Saturday’s Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections, according to VON.

The political parties under the aegis of the State Chapter of Congress of Nigeria’ Political Parties made their position known at a Press briefing held at the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) Press Centre, Ilorin, the State capital.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the State Chairman of CNPP, Alhaji Adebayo Lawal explained that their decision to step down for the APC candidates was based on the outcome of the last Presidential and National Assembly elections across the country.

Alhaji Lawal called on the people of the state to give their support to the APC candidate in his bid for second term in office as well as other candidates of the party with a view to ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every nook and cranny of the state.

He said “we in the CNPP of Kwara State identified the need to be in the mainstream of the Nation’s politics by ensuring that our Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed also emerges on the platform of the APC. We are therefore unequivocal in our resolve to fully support the incumbent Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed on April 11th, 2015 and we call on all our teaming members and supporters in Kwara State to cast their votes the APC on that day”.

Alhaji Lawal who said the state could not afford to be in the opposition in the next dispensation described the APC as a party to beat in the final round of the 2015 general elections.

The Chairman reiterated that the CNPP aligned with the APC Gubernatorial candidate with the belief that he would move the state forward for the benefit of the masses and in the interest of the state.

On the low turnout of voters during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections, the CNPP Chairman promised to intensify their sensitization campaign across the state to reduce voters’ apathy during the Saturday’s election in the state.

Some of the political parties are Action Alliance, United Progressives Party, Citizens Popular Party, Social Democratic Party, Progressives People’s Alliance and the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
