Women accountants fete ICAN president
The society had inaugurated more Chapters because of the support it got from Eyitayo, the 57th ICAN president who had always propagated the cause of SWAN.
The Society of Women Accountants (SWAN) has honoured the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Mrs Comfort Eyitayo, for her outstanding contributions to the Society and ICAN.
SWAN Chairperson, Mrs Nwamara Nnaji, said on Sunday in Lagos that the society had inaugurated more Chapters because of the support it got from Eyitayo, the 57th ICAN president who had always propagated the cause of SWAN.
Nnaji stated this at the 2022 presidential luncheon/birthday celebration organised in honour of the ICAN president by SWAN.
“In the last quarter of 2021, SWAN inaugurated three new chapters and presently, we have six chapters in the pipeline to be inaugurated before the end of June.
“Wherever the ICAN president addresses any audience, she has always propagated SWAN, and I see this as part of the reasons why more SWAN chapters are on board for inauguration.
“We wish you many more returns of your birthday and a very successful tenure as ICAN President.
“You have started well, have been doing well and will also finish well,” she said.
The SWAN chairperson appreciated her members for the large turnout to celebrate the ICAN president, adding that the show of love was an indication of the value placed on the president.
In her response, Eyitayo said, while the programme was organised to honour her, it was an honour for all the great, vibrant and committed members of SWAN.
She commended the female accountants for proving to be an integral part of ICAN within its 57 years of existence, by promoting accounting education in the country.
“SWAN members have worked together with their male colleagues with the convinction that what men can do, women can also do, if not better.
“We have built the institute with our male colleagues to the enviable status that it occupies,” she said.
Eyitayo appreciated all SWAN members for the show of love and their support for the achievements recorded during her tenure.
In her remark, a grand patron of SWAN, Mrs Margaret Unubun, lauded SWAN Chairperson and her team for organising the event in honour of the 8th female president of ICAN.
“SWAN has over the years celebrated incumbent ICAN presidents because the institute had remained a level playing field for the women accountants.
“It is a tradition in SWAN to appreciate members of the institute who have made it proud.
“The Society goes further to do more, when it is a lady and a SWAN member, because it is not all female members of the institute that want to identify with the society,” Unubun said.
Also, a grand patron, Mrs Tokunbo Obafemi-Adegboola, described the ICAN president as a diligent, competent and focused woman who had contributed positively to the country and could change its narrative.
Obafemi-Adegboola hailed Eyitayo for rising to the pinnacle of the institute, amidst the politics therein and urged her to help more women fulfil their political ambitions.
