342563_heroaRenowned soft drink brand, Pepsi has apologised to Real Madrid and Portugal star Crstiano Ronaldo for its number of adverts dehumanising the star in Sweden prior to their crucial World Cup play-off match against Portugal on Tuesday night.

In one of the Ads, the 28 -year-old was depicted as a small doll lying on train tracks with the caption ‘We’re going to pass over Portugal’, while another image shows the model of Ronaldo with dozens of pins stuck in. One also portrayed Ronaldo laying with his face to the ground and a Pepsi can crushing his head.

The uproar that trailed the advert has forced Pepsi to offer a statement of apology to all affected by the campaign. “We would never want to put the sport or the spirit of competition in a negative light. We regret it if people were offended by the posts; they were immediately taken down. We would like to extend our apologies to all concerned,” the statement read.

Ronaldo on Tuesday night got his country the 2014 World Cup ticket with a superb hatrick that condemned Sweden to a 3-2 defeat and (4-2) on aggregate.
