Twitter users wishing to reset their password due to losing or forgetting it will now be able to access reset information via a previously elected mobile phone number or email address.

“That way, whether you’ve recently changed your phone number, or are traveling with limited access to your devices, or had an old email address connected to your Twitter account, you’ve got options,” the microblogging site said.

A new system for identification of fraudulent login attempts has also been designed, which monitors location, device being used and login history to spot suspicious attempts at accessing a user’s account.

If any usual activity is noticed, the person attempting to login will be required to answer a personalised question, to which only the account holder can know the answer. A warning email will also be sent to the account holder.

“Your Twitter account is important to you, and your account security is important to us. We will continue to work on bolstering Twitter account security so you can keep enjoying Twitter safely,” the company said.

Nonetheless, Twitter encouraged users to refer to the company’s password best practice guidance to boost account security further.
