The Nigerian Senate has today confirmed the appointment of Godwin Emefiele as new CBN Governor.
Emefiele thus becomes the 11th governor of the CBN replacing Lamido Sanusi, who was suspended on government charges of “financial recklessness and misconduct. One of Sanusi’s deputies, Sarah Alade, has been acting governor in the meantime.
Speaking on the appointment, Senate president David Mark said it was a key appointment, adding that: “Emefiele will ensure the prerequisite responsibilities of the central bank governor without fear or favour.”
Emefiele told the legislators he would focus more on the country’s budget deficit.
