Nigeria beat Cote d’Ivoire 9-1, wins bronze in 2015 Caf Beach Soccer Championship

Nigeria defeated Cote d’Ivoire 9-1 in the third place match of the 2015 Caf Beach Soccer Championship played at the Roche Caiman Sports Complex, Roche Caiman on Sunday afternoon.

A hat-trick from Abu Azeez, brace each from Emeka Ogbonna and Olawale Isiaka, plus a goal apiece from Bartholomew Igbenegbu and Lokosa Junior Sewanu were all the Supersand Eagles required to make up their miss for Portugal 2015 Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup and avenge their Copa Lagos 2014 dethrone to Cote d’Ivoire.

Nigeria hit the ground running from the start of the whistle with Abu inspiring the Coach Adamu Ejor’s men in front as Emeka and Olawale pilled up their heat on the Ivorians to make 3-0 at the close of first period.

The second was back up and running with the three-time Copa Lagos winners not losing focus as Olawale grabbed his second on the day after Ibenegbu who after netted his second of the period and 6-0, but the Ivorians pulled one back for what turned out a consolation.

The third period resumed with Supersand Eagles leading 6-1 making their opponent look ordinary with high energy and pace. Thereafter, Lokosa turned in the seventh before Emeka and Abu completed the rampage in the 10-goal thriller.

The win gives Nigeria the bronze medal despite they will not play any part in the upcoming Beach Soccer World Cup already nicked by Madagascar and Senegal.

Meanwhile, Madagascar emerged champions

Earlier, Morrocco defeated Egypt to win the fifth place after Ghana routed host Seychelles 7-0 to clinch the seventh place.
