NEWS: ADVAN holds first Marketers Night

advan pix septAs part of activities marking its 15th annual general meeting, ADVAN recently organized the maiden edition of marketers convergence tagged “evening with the marketers” at the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos. The event which was put in place to bring marketers and advertisers together for an interactive platform, had heads of marking of big brands in attendance.
While delivering his welcome address, ADVAN president, Kolawole Oyeyemi acknowledged the role and impact of marketing in the development of brands and the economy of the nation as a whole. The “president with many vices” as he is fondly called used the occasion to reiterate his commitment to making the body more vibrant while he also promised that the marketers evening will henceforth be on the annual agenda of ADVAN.
The first guest speaker on the night, George Noah, Managing Director of LASAA who spoke on the changing face of LASAA said the outdoor regulatory body is going through a transition phase which will enable it add value to people services in the area of signage.
Speaking on the menace of illegitimate signposts, the LASAA boss lamented the continued erection of signages that contravene the regulations of LASAA especially in police and military barracks. He therefore called on advertisers to help drive the course of sanity. “If you get a letter from LASAA telling you that you have you advert in a contravening structure, please do comply with us. We are not saying you cannot put structures in those places or you cannot advertise your products and services, but they must conform with regulation. We appeal you to corporate with us as we try to ensure there is sanity,” he said.
In his presentation titled “Rebuilding the UAC Brand Through collaboration and Alliances”, Executive Director Corporate Services UAC Joseph Dada, shared the story of how the new UAC is evolving. According to him, the company decided to grow the UAC brand through effective collaboration and partnership so as to grow from trading mentality into real brand icon. “ To this end, we partnered with Tigger Brand based in South Africa and in order to increase our space of partnership, UAC acquired 51% of Livestock Feeds and also came together with Imperial Logistics in June,” he stated.
He added that UAC today has adopted a diversified holding company structure with four core specialisations: Food beverages, Real estate, paint and Logistics; all with the aim of being the market leader in any space the company plays in.
The UAC boss also took time to address issue of street hawking associated with company’s product; Gala. According to him, the company is already tackling the issue. “I believe our market is getting more structured, it would be easier to sell through static outlets, shops, table tops. But for now, if you look at the number we have now; even LASSA will agree with me that it would take time to chase those guys off. ”
He concluded by saying that UAC is a Nigerian brand which is “old but not old”, adding that brands who want to win should not only embrace change but learn how to evolve.
