Newly appointed Executive Chairman of the Imo Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), Mr. Ifeanyi Okeke, has pledged his determination to enhance the revenue generation of the state.

Okeke, who said this while interacting with newsmen in Owerri on Friday, also promised to put adequate mechanisms in place that would bring out the full potentials of staffers of the service.

He said that with the dwindling receipts from the federation account, states were expected to be ingenuous in the way they shore up internally generated revenue for development.

He assured residents  of the state that he had come to make the Service a place of pride and an engine room to drive development in the state.

He thanked the governor, Hope Uzodimma for seeing him fit to drive revenue generation in the state and promised to justify the trust reposed in him.

“It is no longer debatable that the era when states depended on oil receipts from Abuja is long gone.

“States are looking inwards and this is part of the mandate given to me by Gov. Uzodimma which I pledge to fulfill,” he said.

He further called on staff of the Service to gear up for more responsibilities, adding that staff welfare would be given due attention.

“The era where people came to work without having anything to do is gone. We will put all available manpower to appropriate use.

“We will hit the ground running because we only have a three-month mandate by the governor  to improve the revenue fortunes of the state,” he said.

He however, said that verification of staff was ongoing to enable the service assign staffers to departments where their strengths would be optimally harnessed.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Okeke  replaced erstwhile IIRS boss, Mr  Emeka Udegbulem.
