FASHOLA SIGNS CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCY BILL INTO LAW

Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola, on Monday 10th march 2014, signed the State Consumer Protection Agency Bill into law. The bill will protect consumers in the state against unscrupulous manufacturers and service providers.

The governor while speaking on the new law said it was based on the belief that consumers are kings, adding that the state decided to embrace the consumer protection law as it is obtained in all developed economy of the world.

“This is a very simple legislative intervention. No government that is alive to its responsibility will not seek to protect its citizens to ensure that they get value for their money.  What the law will do for us is to tell the consumers that they are not helpless. In the end, everybody benefits, it will raise the service level, improve the quality and standards of good that are pushed into the market,” he said.
