ANDRE VILLAS-BOAS

English Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspurs has sacked their manager, Andre Villas-Boas. The move comes after the side suffered a string of poor results, culminating in 0-5 hammering at home to Liverpool on Sunday, December 15, at White Hart Lane Stadium which came barely a month after being mauled 6-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Portuguese, who arrived Spurs in July 2012 presided over the club’s biggest spending spree in recent memory, splashing about £100m on the purchase of 7 new players and overseeing the sale of the club’s best player over the last 2 seasons, Gareth Bale for a world record fee of £86m.

He had previously managed Academica and Porto, where he helped them to a remarkable treble of trophies in his first season, Chelsea before his reign as manager at White Hart Lane.

A statement by the club reads; “The club can announce that agreement has been reached with Head Coach, Andre Villas-Boas, for the termination of his services,”

This is the second managerial casualty in the Premier League in less than three days as Steve Clarke; manger of West Bromwich Albion was relieved of his duties on Saturday 14 December after a similar poor run of form.
