There is a saying that there should be different strokes for different folks, but same folks appear to be getting different strokes in the Nigerian tertiary education. While most university students in Nigeria are currently enjoying the confines of their homes, students in the University of Ilorin seem to be on a different level to their counterparts, though still in the same country and system. The school has created a niche for itself as it is known to have always stood for the stable academic calendar it believes in, having refused to join the series ASSU strikes.

Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, has therefore lauded the lecturers and non-teaching staff of the institution for sustaining peace and tranquility in the institution and keeping the school system running without any interruption for the past ten years; despite the crisis in the country’s educational sector.

The VC who stated this in Ilorin during an annual general meeting with the leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (SSAN) of the university, however empathised with sister universities which had been closed down for months due to strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

University of Ilorin  is the only public university in the country that has not witnessed any form of industrial action whether local or national for the past 10 years, a development which has made the school one of the most sought after by students in Nigeria.
