Dino Melaye, PDP governorship flagbearer for Kogi state

Sen. Dino Melaye on Sunday emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer for the Nov. 11 Kogi governorship election.

Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi, the chairman of the PDP primary election committee said this shortly after the primary election in Lokoja.

Makarfi said that Melaye who represented Kogi West at the National Assembly, scored 313 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ilona Idoko-Kingsley who scored 124 votes, while Usman Mohammed Kabiru scores 121 votes to place third.

He said that Abayomi Awoniyi-Sunday scored 77 votes to emerge forth, while Wada Musa scored 56 votes to place fifth.

Makarfi named others to include Ojaja Gideon-Enama 5 votes and Olufemi Olarewaju 2 votes
He said that the election was conducted conducted under a peaceful atmosphere.
“On behalf of the PDP primary election committee, I wish to congratulate Dino Melaye, the winner of the primary, the state party leaders and members for their cooperation and support toward a peaceful primary election,” he said.

Maikarfi said other contestants in the race included Mohammed Kabiru who scored 121 votes, while Abayomi Awoniyi-Sunday scored 77 as Wada Musa polled 56 votes.

According to him, others are Ojaja Gideon-Enama with five votes and Olufemi Olarewaju two votes

The chairman also said that the election recorded six void votes.

“On behalf of the PDP primary election committee, I wish to congratulate Dino Melaye, the winner of the primary,.

I thank the state party leaders and members for their cooperation and support toward a peaceful primary election,” he said.

The Chairman, PDP Primary Election Committee, Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi, who announced the results, said that the primary was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere.
