Bwari Area Council of the FCT is set to begin electronic collection of its revenue and tax, via the Remita platform.

The Chairman, Mr John Gabaya made this known while presenting the council’s 2023 Appropriation Bill to its legislative arm on Tuesday in Bwari, Abuja.

According to the chairman, the council has already reached an understanding with the company providing the services with regards to the innovation.

He said the innovation was expected to improve revenue and tax collection in the district in the most efficient, transparent and leakage -free manner to boost internal revenue generation.

“We are aware of the constant fluctuation of revenue and we intend to strengthen our internal revenue generation capacity to fill the gap.

“To this end, we have decided to electronically collect our revenue and tax effective from this year using the Remita platform.”

Gabaya  said that his administration had set up a committee on verification of authentic shops owners and subscribers since 2022.

He said the committee was directed to issue only to authentic shop owners and subscribers appropriate title documents approved by the council.

He added that they were also directed to ensure that these markets were performing optimally to meet the council’s objectives for the promotion of value addition and improve the local economy of the area.

Gabaya noted that his administration would ensure that the proposed Kubwa Building Materials Market extension would take off before the end of 2023.

“We have successfully secured the approval of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company of Nigeria (NDPHC) to construct 1×2.5MVA 33/11kV injection substation.

“It will be with a dedicated 33kv line, 11kv lines and distribution substations to power the market and boost socio-economic activities in the whole area.”

The chairman said that the council had created a temporary market at Mpape area of the district for pan-takers to regulate and enhance their legitimate business activities.

“It is our plan to ensure that most, if not all of our markets become operational by the end of the year.

“To this effect, I have directed appropriate committees of the council to assess the basic and immediate needs of redundant markets in the council in order to activate them,” he said.
