The purpose of the BRANDPOWER advocacy interventions is targeted at providing clarity in information, fact-checking false claims and narratives and providing useful news and analysis that will guide the voting public and politicians on the right paths to making their local governments, states and the country a better place for peace, development, progress, good governance and the good life to thrive.

The very first intervention carried out by BRANDPOWER was the fact-checking of the claim by APC national leader and presidential aspirant Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who was seen urging his supporters in a recent video to go and take part in the ongoing ‘new registration’ because “the PVC you have has expired”.

Speaking while addressing the women leaders of the party who paid him a visit in Abuja, Tinubu had asked voters to obtain new PVCs. Tinubu had said: “In case they do not announce to you on time, the PVC you have has expired.

“Take one family member, two family members, knock on all doors and make sure that the new registration… because they may not announce to you on time. The PVCs you have has expired. Yes!

“You need to spread it to various local government and wards at each levels. No matter how difficult it is. To me, I look at it closely and you look at other elections being held, you will see that it’s diminishing because those cards (is) expired.

“It’s mandatory that you go and register to vote and achieve your aspirations. May God bless you and bless Nigeria.”

BRANDPOWER’s fact-check with INEC however revealed that Tinubu’s claim was false, misleading and potentially dangerous. The INEC position was quickly transmitted by various media houses forcing Tinubu to apologise and explain that it was a mix-up.

BRANDPOWER is however following up with a new set of communication materials to further inform the public and affirm emphatically that the Permanent Voters’ Cards have not expired and are still valid for voting in forthcoming elections.
