Bomb Explosion hits Polling Centre in Enugu

A car bomb exploded at the WTC Primary School Polling Booth in Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State at about 7.38 am Saturday, Thisday reported.

There was no casualty as the bomb exploded before the accreditation commenced but voters were scared and it is feared that the incident might lead to voter apathy.

However, the police anti-bomb unit was able to defuse three other unexploded bombs at the centre.
The bombs was planted in a Honda Accord car with registration number KUJ 971 LB, Abuja and parked behind the WTC primary school by unknown persons awaiting the commencement of voting.

Officials of the Police Bomb Unit who rushed to the scene after policemen posted to the centre raised an alert, said one of the bombs exploded inside the car while the second did not explode before they arrived.

The bomb experts dismantled the second bomb which was timed to explode during the voting.

Voters at the scene were scared.

The second bomb was detonated at 8.45am by the police bomb operatives.

Enugu State Commissioner for Policve, Mr. Dan Bature led officials of the command and Department of State Security, DSS, officials to the scene and to conduct through screening of the school premises while assuring scared voters of their safety.

He however told newsmen that the police in the state was on top of the situstion as precautionary measures have been taken to forestall bomb explosion in other polling units.
