The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the incumbent and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Ahmadu Finitri, as the winner of the Adamawa State governorship election.

The declaration was made on Tuesday shortly after INEC resumed the collation of results in the disputed election.

While the PDP candidate scored 430,861 votes, his closest opponent and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Aisha Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, polled 398,738 votes.

BRANDPOWER reports that INEC had on Sunday suspended collation for the supplementary governorship election in Adamawa after the embattled Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Yunusa Ari announced APC’s Aisha as the winner the Saturday supplementary election.

Ari’s declaration was contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act. Section 25 of the Electoral Act, 2022 empowers only the returning officer to announce the result and declare the winner of an election at the state collation centre in the case of the election of a governor of a state.
