The All Prograssives Congress (APC) Professional Women Network has commenced grassroots engagement and distribution of empowerment items to students in Kwara.

The group said this followed the official kickstart of political campaign for the 2023 general election on Wednesday.

Dr Atinuke Owolabi, the President of the group, stated this in a communique made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the end of a meeting held with all the 36 state coordinators and FCT Abuja in Ilorin.

She explained that the exercise tagged: “Education is Key with Tinubu/Shettima”, is a community grassroots engagement for market women, artisans, and youths.

According to her, the engagement will be through door-to-door campaign awareness by giving back to the vulnerable in the society.

She stated that there would be sensitisation for PVC collection, empowerment of indigent students and provision of new school uniforms for indigent students across the 36 states of the federation.

Owolabi said that the grassroots engagement would also include reaching out to associations of traders, artisans and market women.

“The engagement is a veritable avenue to make us know their plight and see how we can proffer solutions before and after elections.

“We have come to realise that these set of people are very important in the society and they should not be neglected or ignored,” she said.

The group’s president explained that it was imperative to adopt the door-to-door sensitisation and mobilisation for PVC collection by providing the much required logistics.

She added that the Professional Ambassadors of Asiwaju and Shettima would carry everyone along as “we move with the train of great future of our fatherland, Nigeria”.

“Education is key, and one of the group’s targets of universal literacy and numeracy (a major component in acquiring knowledge and valuable skills in the learning environment) is in line with SDG4 of the United Nation 2030 Agenda.

“The agenda aims to provide children and young people with quality and easy access to education plus other learning opportunities.

“Some of these children are very good but couldn’t get sponsors to train them.

“Some come to school with tattered uniforms and don’t even have instructional materials which automatically affect their performances in school,” she said.

Owolabi therefore enjoined all political office holders and corporate institutions,  including banks, telecommunications, Oil and Gas companies, to collaborate to start up a fashion design factory specifically dedicated to sewing of school uniforms across the country.

She also suggested the need to provide school shoes and instructional writing materials for all public schools in order to support the vision.
